Small Business and Politics Don’t Always Mix

By Michael Dorausch, DC I had a good reminder today as to why it’s not typically a smart idea to discuss politics in a small business setting. I’ve been a practicing chiropractor in Los Angeles for several years, providing care in a community that represents all sorts of different views and opinions when it comes topics such as politics, sports, and religion. I do my best to keep discussions related to any of those three topics to a minimum, primarily out of respect for the differing viewpoints amongst the people we serve. Today I was reminded why that is a

It’s a Great Day at America’s Chiropractic Center

By Michael Dorausch, DC How one answers the phone is incredibly important to the success of any small business. In the world of chiropractic, it’s amazing to me how many offices continue to use an unenthusiastic approach when it comes to picking up the telephone. Other offices are a delight to call. I hear receptionists saying things such as “it’s a great day at America’s Chiropractic Center” or “it’s a fabulous Friday for a chiropractic adjustment” and stuff like that. In my LA chiropractic office the staff always comes off as delighted to hear from callers. I may think it

Saturday Whiteboard

by Michael Dorausch, DC This post most definitely goes into the thoughts category. It’s not intended to be of any benefit to anyone, but you never know what you can learn by reading somebody’s Whiteboard (a.k.a. dry erase board). It’s Saturday and it’s time to clean the board so I can prepare for the week ahead. It seems no matter how large a Whiteboard I get, the space fills up rather quickly. Still, I enjoy the feeling of getting up from the computer and writing things out on the board, checking off tasks as they are accomplished. If none of

Going to be more press in upcoming weeks

by Michael Dorausch, DC With all the tech related conferences I’ve been attending (and speaking at) these past few months, I’d begin to think that the smarts and energy of people like Chris Winfield at 10e20.com would begin rubbing off on me. When your efforts begin manifesting themselves physically it’s a pretty neat feeling. Things begin to feel as if they are following along a well developed plan rather than a mumble jumble of organized chaos. Thanks to Chris, there will be some upcoming news about this chiropractor, appearing in a print newspaper (and online) in the next week or

Mixed Martial Arts And Running 5K Events

by Michael Dorausch, DC I was doing some preparation on a news article that posted today regarding a Las Vegas 5K running event put on by Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) superstar and five-time UFC Champion Randy Couture. I knew Planet Chiropractic had posted running related articles in the past (not running ones practice) but I hadn’t realized there had been so many. There is a charity 5K being held in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 17, 2008. The event is intended to raise funds and awareness for US servicemen and women who have received injuries while serving their country. More

Community and Participation For Greater Success

by Michael Dorausch, DC I could have categorized this post in Rants & Raves or Marketing but I figured I’d just go with Thoughts since I’m thinking about this and writing as I go. I love participating with others to build greater community. I love doing it off-line, I love doing it online, and I love intertwining the two in ways that effectively bring people together. To those engaged in building community know it doesn’t come easy. If you’ve ever tried to organize a local 10K, a city marathon, an industry conference, a new seminar series, a blog that attracts

Spinal Decompression and Possible Misuse of FDA Logo

by Michael Dorausch, DC I was scanning through some websites this Saturday afternoon and something I came across on a chiropractors web site in Thousand Oaks, California, caught my attention. There was what appeared to be an advertisement for Spinal Decompression Services in the chiropractor’s office. What I found odd was seeing an FDA (Food and Drug Administration) logo underneath the link for more information on the spinal decompression service. This was different from what I saw in a San Jose decompression advertisement in February, so I decided to grab a screenshot. Let’s take a look… The image reads: The

I Still Like Dry Erase Boards

by Michael Dorausch, DC I still like using dry erase boards to get my thoughts out where I can view them. I don’t know what it it but the whiteboard still does it for me. I’ve tried mindmaps and other computer based applications but I’m not sold yet. Starting looking online to order a new 8′ by 4′ magnetic board so I can get more thoughts up daily. I found two photos I took sometime last year and was amused by what I find myself writing. Webmasters and search people would get this stuff but it may look like gibberish

Collection of Chiropractic Love Stories

by Michael Dorausch, DC While preparing an article for this morning’s chiropractic news, I was reviewing about nine years of chiropractic content related to topics like Valentine’s Day, service inside the office, thoughts on the profession, and general topics of love and happiness. With Valentine’s Day 2008 approaching, I thought I’d put together a collection of those articles for your reading pleasure. Subluxations get on your nerves. A photo from our chiropractic office in February of 2007, with a little bit of Valentine spirit added. Rather than discuss each article, I’m just going to provide a list of those I

Running to Blow That Writer’s Block

by Michael Dorausch, DC Running is just one of many forms of exercise that can help stimulate your mind and get your fingers moving forward, to unleash thoughts and ideas that may have been stuck somewhere in the back of your blogging head space. Early this morning I noticed a post to twitter from doshdosh in Toronto, Canada. Being the concerned citizen of the world that Maki is, he twittered his followers with the question: If you’ve ever got writer’s block before, how did you break through it? A number of people messaged back and I chimed in with: I
